Rev. Tony Lee

Senior Pastor

Rev. Tony Lee is the founder and Senior Pastor of the Community of Hope African Methodist Episcopal Church, which opened its doors for worship on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006. Rev. Lee formerly served as Senior Minister to Young Adults at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Ft. Washington, Maryland, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Grainger Browning, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Jo Ann Browning. Prior to that assignment, Rev. Lee served as Ebenezer’s Senior Minister to Youth. During his tenure, he oversaw the development of a wide range of youth ministries that engaged young people in a style of praise and worship that embraced their unique styles and interests. These ministries included nationally recognized scouting and rites of passage programs, educational outreach, clothing design, cartoon ministries and an exceptional persons ministry to focus on youth with special needs.

Young people throughout the community continue to regard the bible studies, conferences and praise fests as resources to equip them with the tools to handle issues relevant to their lives. The forums have stood the test of time speaking directly to the needs of youth. Rev. Lee has also served as the Assistant Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Englewood, New Jersey, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. John H. Spencer, Jr.

Rev. Lee received national media attention on BET’s Cousin Jeff’s Chronicles, CNN and CSPAN. He has also been featured in various print media, including Upscale magazine and The Washington Post. Rev. Lee has been honored by the distinguished privilege to preach at the Sunday morning worship service of the historical Howard University Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel. He also spoke at the 2005 Millions More Movement, the ten year commemoration of the Million Man March. Rev. Lee serves on the leadership team of “Saving Our Selves” (S.O.S), an organization working in the gulf coast on behalf of those victimized and impacted by the social, economic and physical devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Rev. Lee is known throughout the community for creativity in preaching, teaching and worship. His ministry brings unparalleled energy to the Washington, DC metropolitan area, the nation and the world because his message and persona demystify the plan of salvation and bring renewed hope to doubters, the unchurched and a volatile generation of disenchanted young people. In October 2004, Rev. Lee used his leadership role in ministry at Ebenezer to bring two “crew” leaders to the table to sign a “Treaty for Peace,” pledging to stop the violence in Prince Georges County, Maryland. As a part of his continued work in creating innovative ministry, Rev. Lee has been involved in Strip Club Outreach, and as a result, many souls have been won to the Kingdom of God.

Rev. Lee holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland at College Park. Upon completion of his theological studies at the Howard University School of Divinity in Washington, D.C. and the Union Theological Seminary in New York City, Rev. Lee earned a Masters of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary.

Rev. Lee has received numerous awards and citations, including recognition from the Coalition of Concerned Black Christian Men, the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, the Bergen County Branch of the N.A.A.C.P. as well as a resolution from the New Jersey General Assembly.

Rev. Tony Lee is the son of proud parents, Mr. Orlando W.E. Lee and Rev. Nancy T. Lee.
