The Good News Is My News

This five day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into Pastor Tony Lee's sermon "The Good News Is My News".  Each day explores the themes of good news and joy that come from the birth of our Savior, delving into scripture and reflecting on its profound implications for our lives today.

Day 1

Luke 2:8 The story of the shepherds receiving the news of Jesus’ birth teaches us that good news often comes in unexpected ways. In a time where the religious elite were the ones expected to receive divine revelations, God chose ordinary shepherds to share His message of hope and joy. This reminds us that God’s love reaches everyone, regardless of their status or situation. Our worthiness doesn’t determine our access to His grace; it’s a gift freely given to all.

As we reflect on this, we should remember that the good news of Jesus is meant for everyone, especially those who feel overlooked or marginalized. It’s a powerful reminder that we are all invited into relationship with Him, regardless of our past or present circumstances. Embracing this truth allows us to celebrate the joy that comes with knowing we are loved and cherished by God.

  • How can I embrace the idea that good news is for everyone, including myself?
  • In what ways have I felt overlooked or unworthy of God’s love?
  • How can I share this good news with others who may feel the same?
  • Pray for a heart that recognizes and shares the good news with others.
  • Ask God to help you see yourself through His eyes, full of love and worth.

Day 2

Luke 2:10 The angels proclaimed, "Do not be afraid! I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people." This announcement serves as a pivotal moment not only for the shepherds but for all humanity. The message of the Savior is intended to uplift and eradicate the fear that often governs our lives. When we encounter the good news, we’re reminded that there’s a greater purpose that transcends our temporary worries and fears.

As we reflect on this truth, let’s consider how fear often keeps us from fully experiencing the joy found in our faith. God is inviting us to trust His plans, allowing hope to replace fear in our hearts. The good news of salvation brings with it a radical shift, offering us joy even in our struggles. It invites us to walk by faith, assured of the joy to come and of the love that surrounds us.

  • What fears do I need to surrender to God this season?
  • How can I cultivate a mindset of joy even in challenging circumstances?
  • In what ways am I sharing this good news with others who may be fearful?
  • Pray for the ability to let go of your fears and embrace the joy God offers.
  • Seek God’s guidance in figuring out how to encourage someone else dealing with fear.

Day 3

Luke 2:11 The shepherds were instructed to find the Savior wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. This is significant as it highlights how God often operates through humble and unlikely circumstances. Jesus' humble beginnings indicate that our God is approachable and present in our everyday lives. His birth in such modest surroundings opens our understanding that He is near to us in our ordinary moments.

This encourages us to look for God in unexpected places and reminds us that His presence can be found anywhere—even in our struggles and everyday routines. Just like the shepherds, we must seek Him earnestly, knowing that He reveals Himself in ways we might overlook. By drawing closer to Him, we are reminded that our joy is not found in our circumstances but in the relationship we build with Him.

  • Where do I need to look for God in my daily routine?
  • What might it look like to see the extraordinary in the ordinary?
  • How can I be more aware of God’s presence in my life?
  • Pray for eyes to see the Holy Spirit at work in your life.
  • Ask God to reveal His presence in the ordinary aspects of your day.

Day 4

Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace to those on whom His favor rests." This declaration from the heavenly host not only signifies the joyous occasion of Christ’s birth but also emphasizes the peace He brings. God desires to bestow peace upon us, wrapping us in His love and favor. It is essential for us to recognize that this peace is not merely the absence of conflict but an assurance of His presence.

This peace is an invitation for us to cast our cares upon Him and experience the comfort that comes from being loved unconditionally. In a world filled with chaos and uncertainty, recognizing the peace of the Lord enables us to be vessels of peace to those around us. We should strive to reflect this peace in our interactions, contributing to a climate of good news and joy.

  • How can I cultivate peace amidst the chaos in my life?
  • In what ways can I be an ambassador of peace in my community?
  • How does knowing I am favored by God affect my understanding of peace?
  • Pray for peace in areas of your life that feel chaotic.
  • Seek opportunities to extend peace to others, especially those in need.

Day 5

Luke 2:20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had seen and heard. Their experience transforms them from mere witnesses into active participants in the good news message. Their joy was a response to the revelation they received and had begun to understand on a deeper level. This final message reminds us that sharing our experiences of God is crucial to spreading His good news.

As we celebrate this season, let’s reflect on how we can become witnesses of the good news in our own lives. Sharing our testimonies, the changes we’ve experienced through Christ, can encourage others and draw them into the light of His love. Our lives can echo with praise and gratitude, becoming a beacon of hope and joy for those around us.

  • What experiences have I had with God that I can share with others?
  • How can I actively participate in glorifying God in my daily life?
  • Who can I share my testimony with this Christmas season?
  • Pray for boldness to share your story with others.
  • Ask God to help you recognize opportunities to glorify Him daily.
